Verifiable online draw, free and with no sign-up

Paste the list of participants, one per line, and choose how many winners and reserves. The result is decided by a random seed our server generates after recording your list's fingerprint, and anyone can repeat the calculation to check it. The names never leave your browser.

How to check it, step by step

  1. Each line is cleaned (extra spaces removed at the start, the end and in between) and normalised to Unicode NFC; empty lines are dropped. The list is sorted, so the order you paste it in changes nothing.
  2. The list's fingerprint is the SHA-256 of those lines joined with line breaks. It's the only thing from the list that reaches our server.
  3. The server records the fingerprint with the time and generates a random 256-bit seed: nobody can choose it after knowing the list.
  4. Each participant gets the SHA-256 of: the seed, a line break, their position in the sorted list (starting at 0), a line break and their name. The lowest numbers win; the next ones are the reserves.
  5. Every draw of the same list is counted: if someone repeats the draw until they like the result, the certificate says so.

Frequently asked questions

Do you see the names?

No. Only the list's fingerprint, how many participants, winners and reserves, and the title if you add one reach our server. The names stay in your browser.

Can someone cheat by repeating the draw?

They can repeat it, but not hide it: the certificate counts how many times that same list has been drawn and which number each draw is.

Can someone have several entries?

Yes: if a name appears on several lines, it counts as several entries, like several tickets in a hat.
